Amy Mathis is a teacher and also the mother of Jacob-- a child who died of a congenital heart defect. When she received the request from Stronghearts to sponsor Stephanie Allard to run the Boston Marathon, she had an idea. She presented a challenge to her math classes--the class raising the most money for Stronghearts would have a donut or ice cream party.
Ms. Mathis' first period Geometry class was the winner. Together her math classes raised over $900 and made the front page of the Artesia Daily Press.
